New York, 1 April 2026 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has published a digital exhibition titled Signs of Safety. The exhibition aims to highlight the universal and indiscriminate risks posed by explosive ordnance, how these threats are perceived by children across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Sudan, and Syriat, and the key role that affected communities play in championing safety messaging.

With the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on 4 April, this month offers an opportunity to reflect on the significant threat posed by explosive ordnance around the world, and highlight the need for continued mine action responses. Often, the first to identify and warn about potential explosive threats are the people who live in affected areas. With a deep understanding of the landscape and where fighting occurred, as well as an ability to communicate appropriately and accessibly, community representatives – including children – help make their peers safer by sharing warning messages and encouraging safe behaviours.

UNMAS welcomes requests to display the exhibition in print. In this case, please send a request to Lee Woodyear at woodyear@un.org and UNMAS can provide printable panels.
