UNMAS along with the Somali Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development (MoWHRD) and the Somali Explosive Management Authority (SEMA) held a consultation workshop in Mogadishu to discuss developing a National Plan of Action to assist people with disabilities and survivors of explosive hazards.
Various representatives from stakeholders attended the workshop. After deliberation and groups discussion, participants submitted their feedback and notes to be included in national action plan. People with disabilities voiced key priorities to be included in the action, such as free and special education programes for kids with disabilities, increasing the number of rehabilitation centers for injured people from explosive hazards, and raising awareness about the rights of people with disabilities. The consultative process is designed to reflect the contributions and perspectives of dedicated stakeholders at all levels of government and civil society.
