News: AMISOM Holods a medal parade to honor the contribution to stabilization efforts in Somalia

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) held a medal parade on August 31, for the outgoing Ethiopian troops in Sector Four to honour them for their contribution to stabilization efforts in Somalia. The Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Tigabu Yilma Wondimhunegn, awarded medals to distinguished members of AMISOM troops in a ceremony in Sector Four Headquarter in Beledwayan. The medal parade was attended by members of the diplomatic community, and representatives from UNMAS, UNSOM and UNSOS.

Sector Four Commander, Major Colonel. Mohamed Ibrahim awarded a certificate of recognition to UNMAS staff in the sector. The commander lauded UNMAS contribution in protecting AMISOM troops and reducing the impact of explosive hazards in Somalia. He remarked, “UNMAS is a dispensable part of our operations in Sector 4 and we thank them for continuous support.” UNMAS assists troops in sector four by providing training, equipment and mentorship to mitigate the threat of explosive hazards. This has enabled the AMISOM troops to deliver supplies to cities and assist delivery of humanitarian needs in the region.

UNMAS Senior Programme Manager in Somalia, Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, commended the troops for their effort in clearing explosive devices along the main supply routes and securing the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Sector Four.  Ms Sadozai thanked the UN Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) for continuous support to UNMAS work in mitigating the threat of explosive hazards in Somalia.
