In 2009, UNMAS established the Rapid Response and Technical Support Capacity. It gives UNMAS the ability to set up mine action coordination mechanisms and deploy mine action teams in humanitarian emergency situations within 96 hours.
Upon request, UNMAS also supports national counterparts through the provision of needs assessments, training and advice. UNMAS technical experts’ skills range from mine action programme management to explosive hazard clearance, quality management, risk education, and weapons and ammunition management (WAP).
The UNMAS Rapid Response and Technical Support Capacity ensures the most efficient and effective response is established quickly to build confidence in local communities and support wider humanitarian objectives.
