Celebrating the contribution of women in the mine action sector! Meet Fatuma, SEMA Operations Officer, who is leading mine clearance in Puntland State to raise awareness about the risks of landmines and enhance humanitarian access to mine affected areas.
The Somali Explosives Management Authority (SEMA) plays a crucial role in supporting mine action efforts in Somalia, working alongside UNMAS to address challenges related to landmines and explosive remnants of war. As Operations Officer with SEMA for Puntland State, Fatuma contributed to establishing an environment where families can live without fear of explosives; a vision that has motivated her to step into this position of leadership.
Fatuma sees her role not only as one of oversight, but also as an advocate for her community, ensuring their voices are heard in the mine action process.
“I witnessed the devastating effects of landmines and unexploded ordnance on my community. This ignited a passion within me to help my people and address the safety challenges they face.”
